The Batman
By Dat To
Spiderman and Superman are equally incredible and different in their own ways. Don't have time to write about Superman and Spiderman right now, but I'm on a Batman kick right now, just bought season 1-3 of Batman Beyond and Season 1-3 of Justice League (with Kevin Conroy's voiced Batman in it) and Season 1-4 of the New Batman (re-interpretation of early Batman years). Just saw for the 2nd time 'Batman Begins'. Read a stack of graphic novels- each with the different artists and writers putting their uniques stamp in the Dark Knight's history. Batman is amazing for his iron will, incredible genius-level intellect, wisdom, analytical skills, patience (he's not impulsive like other male superheroes), unwillingness to use his wealth for pleasure (only doing billionaire playboy things in public so that people do not become suspicious of what Bruce Wanye actually does with his time and money.) He is uncompromising and noble, yet very dark and takes it to the edge/ borderline of what is justifiable sometimes. This is what strains his friendship with Superman. However, Superman doesn't understand what it means to be JUST human, and to be at the calibre/ status of superheroe legend that Batman is. And rightly so. His mastery of forensics, martial arts and every form of combat/ weapons expertise is more than admirable. He adapts to situations in a blink and that is one of his many strengths. He is constantly learning and improving. A true professional. He masters his body and is in peak physical condition. His drive/ iron will/ determination is what every man dreams of possessing in the pursuit of a worthwhile cause that can bring significance to one's life and family legacy. This is why I find the Batman mythos so compelling. Everyone loves a hero. A person that is consistently honourable and consistently does more than others and is passionate in their cause. We admire people who are consistently courageous and make sacrifices to reach a higher level of living. For Bruce Wanye his endless battle with criminals is a form of closure, tribute to his parents, and vengeance on those who unjustly hurt other. I say vengeance, but he doesn't murder his enemies. He brings them in and lets the law take it from there. His refusal to use guns because of how his parents got murdered is a quirk that has gotten him in harm's way more often than it should have. Although this may seem strange in this day and age, however, he might have become a different type of fighter if he used guns. His advance technology taken straight from his multi-billion dollar company, Wanye Tech Industries and other companies is always cutting edge and ahead of the villians he fights relentlessly against. A lot of times he has to piece together and adapt technology that was created for completely different purposes in order to counter the inventiveness of his enemies. The 'Batman Begins' feature movie captures the essence of The Dark Knight in many ways. The genius of the comic book super heroe artform is that here you have a character that is 50+ years old, yet hundreds and perhaps thousands of artists, writers, inkers, painters, editors, etc., etc. have each interpreted this hero over and over again in their unique style or vision with complete continuity and a web of different tangeants. Not only individually, but in endless combinations switchs of artists/ writers/ editors. Not only writing stories in present time of the writers timeline, also in their imagined pasts and futures within the Batman universe. Writers and artists building on each others' past works and always trying to compete with these past glories in order to put their stamp on the Batman myth. Incredible! The result, a character like Batman is so compelling and complex and..., and..., and,... Just amazing stuff!
